We specialize in prevention and education.
We work behind the scenes in preventing hospital-acquired (nosocomial) infections from occurring. The majority of these infections come from microbial bacteria brought into the hospital. These bacteria find new opportunities to flourish in their new environment. Think of Infection Control as your hospital surveillance team. We evaluate how and why in-hospital infections occur, and put in place practices that prevent their recurrence. We identify high-risk situations and monitor those from admission through discharge. We are vigilant about creating as antiseptic a hospital environment as possible.
Handwashing after each and every patient contact is a priority for all staff. We use alcohol-based gels that kill 99% of all potentially infectious germs within 15 seconds. We take precautions not to misuse antibiotics when a patient’s illness is not likely to respond to antibiotic therapy. Our goal: to create a hospital environment with the lowest risk for preventable infections.
You can’t see germs or infectious microorganisms. Resources on this site can help you be aware of how you can prevent infections from taking hold. Many people think they know how to wash their hands – we show you the correct technique. We have regular updates on the latest infectious diseases – signs, symptoms, risk factors and treatments. And, we welcome your calls or e-mail:
