Great Lakes Cancer Institute and Michigan State University have teamed up to improve the lives of those with cancer. The Clinical Cancer Research Center is a research partnership between the two organizations. Its mission? Advance the field of cutting-edge cancer research.
The Clinical Cancer Research Center conducts national clinical trials at all seven GLCI cancer centers throughout the McLaren Health System. These trials involve the testing of promising new treatments for cancer patients. Areas of focus include lymphoma and leukemia as well as lung, head and neck, breast, and prostate cancers. Last year alone the center placed 200 patients in clinical trials.
In addition to national trials, the center funds pilot studies of MSU investigators. This helps support new research opportunities in their infancy.
“As a large community-based organization, our partnership with MSU is highly uncommon, perhaps one of a kind,” explains Raymond Demers, M.D., president and medical director of GLCI. “Together, we are able to help identify critical, new oncology treatments. We also provide our patients access to oncology expertise, education, and cancer research.”
